Bio:
Alexandra has been teaching at Meta Music since 2019. What she finds most exciting about teaching is using her skill and experience to help students discover, strengthen, and expand their individual voice. For her, the most rewarding part of working with her music students is giving them the supportive space and technical tools to freely express themselves.
Alexandra grew up in the greater Atlanta area and began studying music and performance at an early age. She attended North Springs Performing Arts Magnet School for four years and continued her studies at California Institute of the Arts earning a BFA in Theatre in 2011. Since returning to Atlanta in 2014 she has worked with students of all ages at the MJCCA, Eye Level Learning Center, Emory and Meta Music. -

Bio:
When I think back on the teachers that have made the greatest impact on me, I see my first drum instructor John LaMattina and my high school percussion instructor McKinley Stinson. Both of these educators made sure to emphasize that being a good percussionist was not just about learning how to play a variety of instruments, but learning how to be a well-rounded musician, how to learn from those around us, and how to find joy in the process- even through moments of frustration. This grew into part of a life philosophy for me: that continuous and well-rounded learning is one of the joys of life, that all learning is interdisciplinary, and that all of this should be accessible to anyone.
A large part of what drew me to Meta is this shared philosophy. We prioritize the unique learning style of each student, as well as what keeps them motivated to be lifelong learner. It's truly an honor to be teaching in an environment that is so encouraging, and gives us the opportunity to learn more about ourselves and the world around us everyday through one of the most impactful and well-loved mediums: music.
I’ve been a percussionist for over 15 years- starting with hand drums before moving into various school bands, and learning drum kit. After high school, I continued my education by taking lessons (both in person and online) with teachers such as Emrah Kotan, Yoni Madar, and JP Bouvet. Since 2015 I’ve played with multiple bands, been on a few tours, and gained studio experience both as a band member and freelance session musician.
